Removal of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) from wastewater using microalgae: A review

چکیده
Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are a group of emerging micro-pollutants causing detrimental effects on living organisms even at low doses. Previous investigations have confirmed the presence PPCPs in environment hazardous levels, mainly due to inefficiency conventional wastewater treatment plants (CWWTPs). Their stable structure induces longer persistence environment. Microalgae currently used bioremediate numerous pollutants different characteristics properties released from domestic, industrial, agricultural, farm sectors. CO2 mitigation during culture use biomass as feedstock for biodiesel or biofuel production are, briefly, other benefits microalgae-mediated over CWWTPs. This review provides comprehensive summary recent literature, an overview approaches systems, breakthrough field algal-mediated removal processes. The mechanisms involved phycoremediation, along with their experimental approaches, been discussed detail. Factors influencing aqueous media comprehensively described assessed. A comparative study microalgal strains is analyzed more efficient implementation future role microalgae mitigate most severe environmental impacts generation antibiotic-resistant bacteria discussed. Also, detailed assessment research potential toxic was conducted. current highlights promising sustainable approach efficiently bio-transform bio-adsorb PPCPs.

Removal of Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) from Municipal Waste Water with Integrated Membrane Systems, MBR-RO/NF
This study focuses on the application of combining membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment with reverse osmosis (RO) or nanofiltration (NF) membrane treatment for removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in municipal wastewater. Twenty-seven PPCPs were measured in real influent with lowest average concentration being trimethoprim (7.12 ng/L) and the highest being caffeine (18.4...

How are pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) removed from urban wastewaters?
The presence of bioactive trace pollutants such as pharmaceuticals and ingredients of personal care products (PPCPs) in different environmental compartments (rivers, lakes, groundwaters, sediments, etc.) is an emerging issue due to the lack of existing information about the potential impact associated with their occurrence, fate and ecotoxicological effects. Due to the low PPCP concentrations r...
متن کاملComparative uptake and translocation of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) by common vegetables.
Reuse of treated wastewater to irrigate agricultural crops is increasing in many arid and semi-arid areas around the world. The presence of numerous pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in treated wastewater and their potential transfer into food produce such as vegetables poses an unknown human health risk. The goal of this study was to identify PPCPs that have a comparatively hig...
متن کاملPharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in treated wastewater discharges into Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.
This study assessed seasonal and regional trends of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) detected in monthly samples from two local wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, over the period of one year. Surface water of Charleston Harbor was also analyzed to examine environmental distribution in an estuarine ecosystem. Of the 19 compounds examined, 11...
